Join local librarians and Readers’ Advisory experts Susan Gibberman and special guest Becky Spratford in a conversation on how authors can work better with their local libraries to serve readers.

Susan Gibberman has won multiple awards for her work in Readers’ Advisory, including the Librarian of the Year Award from the Romance Writers of America. She has published a reference work on Star Trek and has been a contributing author to two editions of The Encyclopedia of Television sponsored by the Chicago Museum of Broadcast Communications. She is a longtime member of Sisters in Crime Chicagoland.

Becky Spratford is a Readers' Advisor in Illinois specializing in serving patrons ages 13 and up. She trains library staff all over the world on how to match books with readers through the local public library. She runs the RA training blog RA for All and is on the Steering Committee of the Adult Reading Round Table. Becky is also known for her work with horror readers as the author of The Reader’s Advisory Guide to Horror and is a proud member of the Horror Writers Association who honored her as a special guest of honor at StokerCon 2017 for her contribution to the genre. SPEAKER:  Edgar®  and Agatha Nominated author Victoria Thompson writes the Gaslight Mystery Series, set in turn-of-the-century New York City and featuring midwife Sarah Brandt. Her latest, Murder in the Bowery, was a May 2017 release. The 21st book in that series, Murder on UnionSquare, will be out in May 2018.  City of Lies is the first book in her new Counterfeit Lady series, a November 2017 release from Berkley.  She also contributed to the award winning writing textbook Many Genres/One Craft. Victoria teaches in the Seton Hill University master's program in writing popular fiction. She lives in Illinois with her husband and a very spoiled little dog.  

TOPIC: It’s Not a Mystery!  Victoria Thompson will show us an easy technique for creating a mystery plot that you can use for a true mystery novel or plug into a novel of any genre. We will actually use the technique to plot a mystery together from scratch.
