Harriette Gillam Robinet was born & raised in Washington, D.C., graduated from the College of New Rochelle, New Rochelle, NY & completed graduate studies in microbioligy at Catholic University, Washington, D.C. As part of her research for her historical fiction for children Harriette visits the historical sites where her books are set.She & her husband McLouis Robinet, live in Oak Park, IL & have 6 adult children & 4 grandchildren. She is the author of several books about young African-Americans in historical settings including Walking to the Bus-Rider Blues, & Forty Acres & Maybe a Mule, winner of the Scott O'Dell Award. Her latest book,Walking to the Bus-Rider Blues is dedicated to August Paul Aleksy III, proprietor; his wife, Tracy Reynolds Aleksy; & their son, August Paul Aleksy IV of Centuries & Sleuths, a history-mystery bookstore...{Harriette received the Jane Addams Children's Book Award from the Jane Addams Peace Association and Women's International Leage for Peace and Freedom, in New York, October 19, 2001, for Walking to the Bus-Rider Blues. Also Harriette's Missing from Haymarket Squarewas listed in the November, 2001,issue (p.123) of The Smithsonian Magazine on their Recommended Children's Books for 2001.
